Languages Week was full of vibrant and diverse celebrations, from culinary competitions and choir performances to Oktoberfest festivities and language-themed quizzes.
On Tuesday, our Sixth Form Linguists went to St. Catherine’s for a cooking event, making Salmorejo, Quiche Lorraine, and Schokoladenkuchen in mixed teams, following recipes in their target language and competing to produce the best dishes. The German Department hosted gingerbread decorating workshops, and the Lower School French choir sang the most powerful songs from Notre-Dame de Paris. Second Form students enjoyed an Oktoberfest party with traditional German elements. First Form pupils had a French-style breakfast during Languages Week, and there were Bundesliga top trumps and a Deutschland Quiz. Our wonderful extra-curricular languages team also got involved delivering sessions on Arabic calligraphy, the Chinese Autumn Festival and a celebration of Russian and Japanese culture.
