On November 7, the History Department took 83 Fifth Form Historians to the Old Operating Theatre and the Golden Hinde in London. The Old Operating Theatre, Europe’s oldest surviving medical operating theatre, provided a tailored lecture and demonstration for the AQA “Health and the People” unit, vividly depicting 19th-century surgery challenges. The visit also served as excellent revision for a Fourth Form-studied topic.
The second half at the Golden Hinde included a talk and tour related to the GCSE Local Study: “Drake’s Circumnavigation,” serving as a great introduction to Elizabethan History. The day ran smoothly and was enjoyed by all.
