The recent Orchestral Concert at Holy Trinity Church showcased a diverse range of music, featuring both classical staples and two world premieres. The evening commenced with Ruvin Meda’s Theme for Big Band, a debut performance by the talented composer and Lower Sixth student. The RGS Big Band, conducted by Miss Wild, delivered a confident and accomplished rendition, navigating the rhythmic intricacies with ease. The second premiere featured a Bass Trombone concerto by Peter White, challenging both soloist and ensemble. The concert’s first half concluded with Carnival 2, a creative and imaginative piece celebrating piano playing at RGS, performed by nineteen pianists accompanied by Concerto Consort. The second half featured the RGS Symphony Orchestra’s impressive performances of Mozart’s Overture to The Magic Flute and Beethoven’s notoriously challenging Symphony No 5, culminating in an exhilarating final movement. The concert highlighted the depth of musicianship at RGS, earning accolades for exceptional music-making and acknowledging the dedicated staff behind its success.
