Old Guildfordian Events

We were delighted to welcome Dr. Nick Wilson-Jones (OG’90) delivered a captivating and informative talk to the RGS Medical Society, focusing on the specialised field of paediatric plastic surgery.  His insights into the challenges and innovations within this area not only educated our students but also inspired them to consider the breadth of possibilities within the medical profession.  Hearing from someone with such extensive experience and dedication to his craft serves as a powerful motivator for the next generation of medical professionals.  It was a wonderful reminder of the importance of alumni returning to share their knowledge and experiences, reinforcing the strong community ties that the School fosters.

October was also a significant month for reunions as we welcomed back Old Guildfordians (OGs) from the classes of 2009 to 2013 for their much-anticipated Reunion.  For many, this was their first return since graduation, and the excitement was palpable.  As they walked the halls once more, they were impressed by the School’s ongoing development and modernisation while also cherishing the nostalgia of their old stomping grounds—classrooms where they learned, the Art room where creativity blossomed, and the library that served as a sanctuary for study and reflection.

The evening continued with a delightful gathering in Great Hall, where the OGs enjoyed drinks and a superb dinner. During this time, they were treated to an update from the Headmaster regarding the latest school news and future plans and had the chance to delve into the archives, sharing memories and stories that echoed through the years. Discussions about the Road to 2035 Bursary Campaign highlighted the ongoing commitment to ensuring that future generations can benefit from the same educational opportunities.

Many current staff graciously devoted their Saturday evening to join the festivities, enriching the experience for all attendees.  Their presence, along with that of former staff members Ted Badham, Pete Bagley, Max Knight, John Saxton, John Simpson, Charlotte Smith, and Alan Thorn, truly made the event memorable, underscoring the importance of community and shared history within the RGS family.
