12 October marked the grand conclusion of the RGS Guildford 2024 Year 6 Masterclasses, an event that brought together a vibrant group of 140 enthusiastic students from 27 local primary schools. Over the course of four Saturday mornings, these budding scholars engaged in a diverse range of subjects that sparked their curiosity and creativity, and this final session was no exception.
The Masterclasses offered a rich variety of topics designed to cater to a wide array of interests and talents.
In the Creative sessions, students explored the art of poetry and imagery, delving into the world of words and expression. They crafted their own poems, learning to convey emotions and paint vivid pictures through language. In the Humanities class, students studied the fascinating history surrounding the formation of China, gaining insights into a culture that has shaped the world in countless ways.
Mathematics took a fun twist with probability games, where students were challenged to think critically and strategically. This engaging approach not only sharpened their mathematical skills but also encouraged teamwork and friendly competition. The Languages session introduced students to Japanese language and culture, offering them a glimpse into a vibrant and unique world that extends beyond their immediate experience.
Science enthusiasts took part in a thrilling forensic investigation, where they donned the hats of detectives, piecing together clues to solve a mystery. This hands-on experience ignited their passion for inquiry and experimentation, showcasing the wonders of scientific exploration. In the Technology class, students completed their own working speakers, learning the fundamentals of electronics and design in a practical and enjoyable way.
Over these four weekends, it has been a genuine delight to work with such bright and eager students. Their enthusiasm and curiosity have been infectious, reminding us of the potential that lies within each of them.
