What’s the best thing about the RGS? The best thing about the RGS is the people I work with. I smile every day and I laugh every day, that’s important. It’s such a treat to work in the town centre and to be able to walk up and down the high street, especially when the sun is shining.

What excites you most about coming into work each day? It might sound ridiculous, but I am always excited for lunch time. Our catering team do an incredible job and I always enjoy the great meals provided.

If you were allowed one dream perk, what would it be? Being able to fully register faces I see in my dreams and know for certain who I believe I have seen is who I know.

What luxury would you have on a desert island? Although not a luxury to anyone else, it would have to be my childhood teddy bear, Jerry. He was in my cot when I was born and still resides on my bed now.

What’s your favourite film and why? The Road to El Dorado. The film has a great soundtrack, I love the vibrancy of the film’s artistic design and the storyline is great too. It challenges friendship and morals. I watch it when I’m down and it never fails to make me smile.

Which actor/actress would you get to play you in a film of your life? Angelina Jolie.

What food will you absolutely not, under any circumstances, eat? Jellied Eels. I’ve tried them, and I won’t ever again.

If you could be any cartoon character, who would you be? Simon’s Cat.

What’s your life philosophy/motto in life? I don’t chase, I attract. What belongs to me will simply find me.

What’s the best thing about the RGS? The friendliness and support of colleagues and students.  It is a real community.

What excites you most about coming into work each day? The variety – rarely having a moment to spare and  skipping from one fun activity to another.

If you could change your name to anything, what would it be? Alice (think Vicar of Dibley)

If you were allowed one dream perk, what would it be? A javelin, with a fixed elbow so that I could throw it properly again

What luxury would you have on a desert island? A piano…and a hot water bottle for cold evenings!

What food will you absolutely not, under any circumstances, eat? It took me three attempts to eat part of a tarantula leg in Cambodia; anything that scuttles doesn’t seem that appetising

If you could be any cartoon character who would you be? Tigger

What’s your life philosophy/motto in life? Keep smiling!

What’s the best thing about the RGS? Being surrounded by bright, interesting people of all ages.

What excites you most about coming into work each day? I don’t think that there’s been a day that I have walked from my car towards the Old Building and not thought what a privilege it is to work somewhere with so much history behind it.

If you could change your name to anything, what would it be? Something that everyone spells correctly when I say it.

What luxury would you have on a desert island? Some very nice bubble bath to put in a heated rockpool.

What’s your favourite film and why? Moulin Rouge.  It’s so exuberant and funny, but also clever and moving.

What would your autobiography be entitled? Falling with style

What food will you absolutely not, under any circumstances, eat? Olives

What’s your life philosophy/motto in life? Concentrate on the things you can change, and ignore the things that you can’t.

What’s the best thing about the RGS?  The way people positively support each other to be able to do their best.

What excites you most about coming into work each day? Working with a great crowd of people.

What luxury would you have on a desert island?  An endless supply of fresh coffee.

What animal most reflects your personality?  Probably a domestic cat: I like being at home, interspersed with bouts of exploring.

What’s your favourite film and why?  I’m not sure about an all time favourite, but I really enjoyed ‘The Dig’ earlier this year.  It’s a fairly low key drama about the discovery of an Anglo-Saxon ship buried in Suffolk.  That sounds dull, but it really isn’t.

What food will you absolutely not, under any circumstances, eat?  I’d like to think I’d try anything.  I went to China last year and ate a whole load of things that didn’t sound too appetising, including pig intestine, chicken feet and the lining of a cow’s stomach.

When did you join the RGS:  January 2021.

What’s the best thing about the RGS?  Quite simply, the people, both the boys and the staff.  As cliched as it sounds, I couldn’t ask to spend my days with a better bunch of folk.

What excites you most about coming into work each day?  I laugh every day and, as the saying goes, laughter really is the best medicine.

If you could change your name to anything, what would it be?  Although I was christened Joanne, I always wanted to be called Josephine, as it sounded more mysterious.

If you were allowed one dream perk, what would it be?  To have the knees and back of a 20 year old again so I could play hockey.

What luxury would you have on a desert island?  A coffee machine (however, to actually enjoy the coffee, I would also need a regular delivery of pods and fresh milk, my favourite mug, brown sugar and chocolate powder!)  Failing that, a large vat of Marmite.

What animal most reflects your personality?  A duck.  On the surface I try to give the impression of gliding through life in a calm manner, but underneath I am actually furiously paddling to stay afloat.

What’s your favourite film and why?  West Side Story, simply beautiful and I get goosebumps when I hear the opening bars of music.

What would your autobiography be entitled?  Over the sea to Skye.

Which actor/actress would you get to play you in a film of your life?  Kate Winslet.  She plays ‘real life’ characters well and although I doubt the film would be an Oscar winner, I think she could portray a Surrey mum of two and School Receptionist with great gusto.

What food will you absolutely not, under any circumstances, eat?  Avocado.  Looks revolting, tastes disgusting and stains a white shirt.  Not a single redeeming feature.

If you could be any cartoon character who would you be?  Daffy Duck.

What’s your life philosophy/motto in life?  Try to surround yourself with people who possess two of the most important qualities in life: kindness and a twinkle in your eye.

What excites you most about coming into work each day?  Not knowing what challenges the day will bring, but knowing I’m part of a team who’s ready for anything.

What’s your motto in life? Why leave it for tomorrow, when you can do it today.

If you were allowed one dream perk, what would it be? To have superman-like powers! It would sure made all the event set-ups much easier!

What luxury would you have on a desert island? Either an endless supply of crisps or a mobile air-con unit attached to my back! I hate the heat.

What’s your favourite film and why? Impossible to pick a favourite film, but give me any 90’s action film and a big bag of popcorn and I’ll be happy!

What luxury would you have on a desert island? A longboard.

What animal most reflects your personality? A really dumb cat. Would love to think it’s amazing, but in reality can’t even open a can of tuna.

What food will you absolutely not, under any circumstances, eat? I really struggle with Moroccan lamb. Hunger makes a good enough sauce for most other things.

What animal most reflects your personality? A Labrador – I like people, food and the great outdoors!

What’s your favourite film and why? Anything set in Italy – for the scenery/ancient ruins/escapism vibe. No need to have audio, the view alone makes me happy!

Which actor/actress would you get to play you in a film of your life?  Tamsin Greig. Amazing actress whatever role she plays.

What food will you absolutely not, under any circumstances, eat? Tripe, squid/rubbery seafood. I don’t understand why it’s called food.

What’s the best thing about the RGS? The network of support shown by the RGS community and the opportunity to achieve your goals and ambitions. My extended back garden’s not bad either!

What excites you most about coming into work each day? Working in an ever-changing environment can be extremely challenging, that’s what keeps it interesting. I get to be creative in my job every day and to see the best of everyone on the sports field.

If you could change your name to anything, what would it be? With a name like King, why would you change it? Maybe change my first name to ‘The’ (Elvis lives), but probably should be ‘Jo’!

If you were allowed one dream perk, what would it be? This is probably a stretch on the word perk, but to have a TARDIS would be amazing. If it happens, I’ll be sure to let you know how everyone at the RGS is doing in the future.

What’s the best thing about the RGS? The way that it makes you feel welcome straight away, nothing is too much trouble and everyone is ready with a friendly word or a helping hand.
